1 Kings 1

As David declines in health, his son Adonijah attempts to claim the throne. This is thwarted by David officially declaring Solomon to be king.

  • Adonijah’s actions in verse 9 involved uniting all aspects of the kingdom. All that remained was to actually sit on the throne.
  • For Solomon to publicly sit on David’s mule (v. 33) meant that he was king.
